To claim that aging is weird is not a particularly groundbreaking sentiment but that doesn’t make it any less true. With her latest song, Tamara Lindeman – who records as The Weather Station – turns those beautifully complex growing pains into a poetic, thoughtful and nuanced statement and the results are breathtaking.
‘Thirty’ – the first single from The Weather Station’s upcoming self-titled album – paints a portrait of lived experiences that both fluctuate and idle. What’s more is the way the song vividly describes the ways in which life constantly introduces us to new environments and people while pulling us in all sorts of directions whether we like it or not. Musically, ‘Thirty’ twists and turns, changes tempo and lyrically finds solace in personal examination, coming to terms with the past, embracing the present and preparing for the future. It’s the best song the Toronto artist has written and feels like a reinvention of sorts – take a listen below.
