We were feeling a little experimental this weekend, and decided to make something a little different. Specifically, we decided it was time to try to prepare duck at home. I’ve always been a big fan of duck recipes when dining out, but for some reason Kasey and I have never summoned the courage to try to prepare it at home until now. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too hard. And the result was fantastic: crispy, braised, tender duck meat sitting on top of a bed of udon noodles and with bok choy and oyster mushrooms. Everything about that recipe screams awesome. Its a flavorful, crisp meal with slick presentation, and calls for an album that shares these qualities. For this reason, I’m pairing this one with CFCF‘s 2009 debut album Continent.
CFCF is the moniker of Montreal, Canada’s Mike Silver. For the past several years, Silver has been crafting slinking, chilled-out remixes of other artists tunes. In fact, since at least 2007 he’s remixed Justice, Memory Cassette, HEALTH, Spank Rock, Crystal Castles and more. But he only finally released his own album in the final quarter of last year. But it was a debut worth waiting for. There are elements of IDM, house, disco, ambient and pop pulsing through the threads of synth and electro-beats that weave this album together. The melodies are hypnotic but progressive. It’s definitely worth checking out. Listen to the tunes below and then go buy a copy from Insound.
