The son of a piano teacher, London-based Douglas Dare combines poetic lyrics alongside, perhaps unsurprisingly, evocative piano-led melodies. The sparsely arranged “Lungful” is exceptionally engaging. It’s built on little more than a complex piano-built tune accented with handclaps and an organic, clattering rhythm to accompany vocals that favorably call to mind Beirut’s Zach Condon.
