The immensely talented Cat Power, a.k.a. Chan Marshall, is back with the first single from her upcoming Sun LP. If the single is any indication she hasn’t lost an ounce of her talent or any teeth from her bite. In fact, “Ruin” immediately commands a place amongst some of the songwriter’s most engaging tracks yet. A powerful rhythm section led by a simple piano riff propels the track forward as Marshall rattles off a list of travel destinations: “I’ve been to Saudi Arabia, dug up Calcutta. So where to? Mozambique, Istanbul, Rio, Rome, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Taiwan, Great Britain, Belfast, to the desert, Spain. Tokyo. Some little bitty island in the middle of the Pacific, all the way back home to my town.”
The new album is due September 4th. If you preorder it from iTunes you’ll receive some bonus tracks.
