I’m sure many of our readers will remember the awesomeness that once was Detachment Kit, and are saddened that they are no more. I know I am. I can still remember the first time I heard “Skyscrapers” and “Ted The Electric” on a mixtape a friend made for me, and just how awesome it was driving around Ohio listening to those tracks. Of This Blood was definitely a favorite in my crew through most of the mid-2000s. So yeah, I’m bummed that Detachment Kit has moved on. But as I’ve come to learn, where one band ends, often a new one begins. And in this case, it turns out that the “silver lining” is actually Bronze.
Bronze is the latest project of former members of the Detachment Kit Ian Menard and Charlie Davis, who are joined by “brass band veteran” Jess Birch. And happily, Bronze demonstrate more than enough promise to make me forget all about the Of This Blood follow up I was hoping for. Their debut EP, which is available as a free download from their bandcamp page, is hook-filled and rambunctiously energetic. Thumping, clattering percussion. Big guitar riffs. Catchy songwriting. What more do you need to know before you give a great rock song a listen?
