Blackbird Blackbird is the pseudonym for San Francisco’s very own one-man chilled-out electro recording project: Mikey Sanders. Sanders grew up in the Bay Area punk/hardcore scene as a drummer, and recently made the transition to electronic music. Since this March he has been steadily releasing gorgeously light-weight tunes including a pair of free EPs available via bandcamp. He recently tried his hand at Modest Mouse’s well-known cut “Float On” — successfully making it his own. Imagine sitting in a warmly-lit waiting room in heaven with a head full of happiness, your thoughts bathed in nostalgia, while Modest Mouse plays in an adjacent room, and you’ll have a decent idea of what this take sounds like. And, trust me, his original tunes are fantastic too (seriously – go grab those EPs from bandcamp).
Fellow Bay Area residents can (and should) catch him live on July 6 at the Elbo Room in San Francisco. His first physical release – a split 7″ – featuring “Pure” and “So Sorry, Girl” is available for pre-order (with a July 23, 2010 release date) from Double Denim Records.
