“I Fought The Law” was originally recorded and released by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets in 1959, but was made famous by the Bobby Fuller Four who recorded and released their version of the track in 1965. The track reached number 8 on the charts, but, tragically, just as the song reached the top ten Bobby Fuller was found dead in his parked automobile outside his Los Angeles home. Since that time this song has become one of the most covered songs of all time with versions by Bruce Springsteen, The Dead Kennedy’s, Johnny Cash, the Clash, Hank Williams, Jr., Green Day, Grateful Dead, and more.
