I still haven’t got around to using writing reviews for my three favorite Ryan Adams’ albums yet (Heartbreaker, Cold Roses & Gold). It is just a matter of time though. In the meantime though, here is the excellent Destroyer Sessions that Adams recorded with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings just a few days before they laid down the tracks that would make up Heartbreaker. It is a rootsy collection of acoustic ballads. “Bartending Lines” is an alternate take on the track that became “Bartering Lines” on Heartbreaker. “Time (The Revelator)” is an electric cover of a phenomenal Gillian Welch tune. It is an excellent collection of songs, and I especially like “Statuettes with Wounds” and “Poison and the Pain.” A number of these tracks ended up on other Ryan Adams’ albums including Easy Tiger.
